Schools & Clubs - Australia

A must on most peoples “wish list” of touring destinations.

Every 4 years or so Australia becomes the focus for an Ashes Test series and most summers, one of the home nations tours with their rugby team, so we are well accustomed to seeing what a great destination this is and just how importantly they view their sport. Thefore sport is available at all levels and it is one destination that never fails to deliver life long memories, making you want to return over and over again!

Despite the distance, with more and more airlines flying to Australia, the stop-over options mean any journey can be broken up on the way out or return. This gives you the advantage of seeing different countries, having a warm up game (where possible) and of course reducing the potential jet lag!

Played throughout the country in schools and clubs – with certain States being stronger than others, it means the right level of fixtures can be found no matter what your strengths.

Increasing in popularity, especially in places with strong links to Europe, such as Melbourne.

Offers a good standard for both boys and girls hockey. Astro is available in all centers and the place  to go for the strongest opposition would have to be Western Australia. In Sydney you have the chance to play at Homebush, the home of the 2000 Olympic Games.

Widely played at schools and clubs and probably the most popular girls sport in Australia, you can be sure of good competitive games, and the opportunity to have specialized coaching whilst on tour.

Seldom toured by UK sides, so you can be sure of an excellent welcome and competitive games. February Half Term is a good time for pre season, or failing that a tour over the Christmas holidays is also possible – particularly special if combined with an Ashes tour!

Works well if combined with Netball, good opposition available along with billeting.

The Australians have been excellent at preserving the Aboriginal Culture in certain areas, none more so than in the Northern Territory. Australia Zoo in Sydney gives you a great over view of the history of Australia – going well back before Captain Cook arrived in 1887.More modern culture could be portrayed as offering a really warm welcome to overseas visitors in the form of a Traditional Barbie. The billets in Australia can be amongst the best in the world.

Depending on where you go, you’ll never be short of things to do. The Harbour Bridge Climb in Sydney, a tour of the WACA in Melbourne, snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Queensland or a surf lesson on the Gold Coast, feeding crocodiles outside Darwin – the choice is yours!

A lovely variety of accommodation available and mostly well priced in such a large country. Stay in a downtown hotel in Sydney with a view of Darling Harbour, or try a sports center with on site facilities.
