Schools & Clubs - Chile

A magnificent county of contrasts that can be toured on its own or combined with Argentina.

Making up most of the South West Coast of South America, it can offer you a good 2 week tour for both rugby and hockey which are played to a very good standard. The British Schools make up the majority of the opposition, and with similar traditions, you can be sure to know what to expect!

You can travel as far south as St John’s or right up to the Atacama Desert, or simply spend time around the centre of the country taking in Santiago and Vina Del Mar, on the coast.

Particularly rugby in the schools, is getting stronger by the year and many a touring side has under estimated the opposition. Facilities here are excellent and whilst it might be chilly when the wind blows down off the Andes, the welcome is always warm!

Primarily played by girls in schools, the standard is very good and they know how to host, being such good tourist themselves! They love the whole concept of sporting exchange.

A good mix of indigenous Indians, Spanish and more recent immigrants make for a colourful history. Each town has its traditional squares and churches in the center and there can be no mistaking you are in South America! Enjoy Empanadas at local markets.

With it being winter when most schools tour Chile skiing in the Andes is a real possibility, something not many will get to do! On your way to Vina, be sure to stop off at some of the world’s best Vineyards. In Santiago you can have a city tour and if heading south, you can trek in the forests.

With the network of local schools – billeting is a great option here, often staying in magnificent homes. When in hotels, the standards are very good as plenty of mining money has recently been invested in the country as the price of copper reaches record highs!
